What is CITRUS RETICULATA PEEL OIL and what does it do?

Role: EMOLLIENT

Family: Mandarin essential oil

Comedogenic index: 0

Citrus reticulata Blanco, better known as the mandarin tree, is a member of the Rutaceae family, native to China. Cultivated for thousands of years, the mandarin tree is renowned for its tasty fruit. The name "mandarin" was inspired by the attire worn by the mandarins, high dignitaries of the Chinese Empire. Introduced to Europe in the early 19th century, it now thrives in warm, sunny regions, notably around the Mediterranean basin.

To extract mandarin essence, the first cold pressing of fresh fruit zests is preferred. This method preserves the fruit's beneficial properties, including terpenes, aldehydes, flavonoids and esters.

Potential Skin Properties

Mandarin essential oil may help balance sebum production and combat skin imperfections such as blackheads and acne pimples. It is said to be rich in monoterpenes, compounds with anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe skin redness and irritation.

Precautions for use

Although generally well tolerated, mandarin oil may cause allergic reactions in some people, notably due to the presence of molecules such as limonene and linalool. It is contraindicated for children under six, and should be used with caution.
