What is the "SCHIZOPHYLLAN" and what does it do?

Role: HUMECTANT

Family: Active Mushroom

Comedogenic index: 0

Schizophyllan is a polysaccharide derived from the mycelium of the mushroom Schyzophyllus commune. It is obtained by fermenting liquefied mushrooms, then purified for use in cosmetics.

Antioxidant properties
Research has highlighted the antioxidant capacities of schizophyllan, which is particularly effective in neutralizing damage caused by airborne pollutants such as smoke. It even appears to increase the skin's natural antioxidant reserve, although this property requires further study to be fully confirmed.
It's worth noting that, although it performs well, schizophyllan is surpassed by vitamin C.

Moisturizing and soothing
One of schizophyllan's major advantages lies in its exceptional moisturizing properties. Thanks to its strong water-holding capacity, it maintains skin hydration even under stressful conditions, surpassing even hyaluronic acid, a component widely recognized for its moisturizing benefits.

What's more, it has proven remarkably effective in reducing signs of skin irritation, providing a soothing and calming effect on the skin.

Anti-aging effect
In addition to its moisturizing and soothing properties, schizophyllan is a major ally in the fight against the signs of aging. By forming a light film on the skin, it helps give it a firmer, smoother appearance, reducing the visible signs of ageing.

Use in Dermatology and Cosmetology
Dosages and effects
Usage levels of Schizophyllan in skin care products range from 0.1 to 1 %. Concentrations of 0.1 to 0.4 % have been shown to improve hydration, skin softness and reduce signs of irritation.

Schizophyllan presents itself as a promising mushroom derivative in skin care, offering soothing, moisturizing and firming benefits. Its use in a variety of cosmetic formulations testifies to its potential to improve skin health and appearance.
