Little known to the general public, buriti oil could well become an essential part of your skincare routine. Extracted from a majestic Amazonian palm tree, this orange-colored oil is fascinating for its high beta-carotene content and its many antioxidant and photoprotective properties. But what is really behind this tropical oil with its coppery hues?

Origin and extraction of buriti oil

Buriti oil, or Mauritia Flexuosa Fruit Oil, comes from the fruit of the buriti palm, a species endemic to the tropical forests of South America. Sometimes called the «tree of life,» this palm tree is deeply rooted in indigenous Amazonian cultures.

The oil is extracted by first cold pressing the fruit pulp. This mechanical process, carried out without solvents or heat, preserves sensitive biochemical active ingredients such as carotenoids and vitamin E.

Exceptional nutritional composition

Main assets :

  • Beta-carotene (provitamin A) : powerful antioxidant, stimulates melanin production.
  • Vitamin E (tocopherol) : protects against free radicals, prevents skin aging.
  • Vitamin C : revitalizing and toning effect.
  • Essential fatty acids : linoleic acid (omega-6), oleic acid (omega-9), palmitic acid, and stearic acid strengthen the skin's lipid structure.

Skin benefits

Antioxidant

Its high content of carotenoids and tocopherols makes it an excellent ally in the fight against oxidative stress, which is responsible for premature skin aging. It neutralizes free radicals caused by sun exposure, smoking, or pollution.

Moisturizing and lipid-replenishing

Thanks to its fatty acids, buriti oil restores the skin's hydrolipidic film, thereby strengthening its natural barrier. It reduces imperceptible water loss, bringing suppleness and comfort to dry or dehydrated skin.

Photoprotective

It absorbs some UV rays and stimulates melanin production, promoting gradual and even tanning. Please note: it does not replace broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Healthy glow effect

Its orange tint gives the skin an instant glow, for a natural «sun-kissed» effect without prolonged exposure to the sun.

Benefits for hair

Protection against external aggression

The antioxidants it contains limit the effects of oxidative stress on the hair fiber: breakage, hair loss, and loss of shine.

Hydration and nutrition

The omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids present strengthen the hair fiber, prevent water evaporation, and stimulate natural sebum production.

Color preservation

Provitamin A supports natural hair pigmentation and prolongs color retention, while combating UV-induced discoloration.

Recommended cosmetic uses

Skin care:

  • Moisturizers and anti-aging creams
  • Serums for a healthy glow
  • After-sun oils and repairing balms

Hair care:

  • Nourishing masks
  • Protective shampoos
  • Hair oils before or after sun exposure

Buriti oil can be used neat for topical application or mixed with other vegetable oils such as jojoba oil, calendula oil or carrot to enhance its effects.

Precautions for use

  • Non-comedogenic: well tolerated by most skin types, even the most sensitive.
  • Coloring: its strong pigmentation can stain light-colored fabrics or very light skin if used in excess.
  • Storage: in an opaque bottle, protected from light and at a temperature below 25°C.
