What is "BIS-ETHYLHEXYLOXYPHENOL METHOXYPHENYL TRIAZINE" and what does it do?

Role: Organic UV filter

Family: TINOSORB S, Recent UV filter UVB, UVA SHORT, UVA LONG

Comedogenic index: 0

TINOSORB S is a relatively new UV filter approved in 2000. Its INCI name is a little complicated to pronounce, but Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is worth recognizing as one of the best sun protection agents known to date.
It is a broad-spectrum organic sunscreen (covering the entire UVB and UVA range, from 280 to 400 nm) with peak protection at around 310 and 345 nm and, unlike older UV filters, it is highly photostable. It hardly degrades in the presence of UV light, and is also useful for stabilizing other, less stable sunscreen agents, such as the well-known UVA protector avobenzone.
It is oil-soluble.
Unfortunately, it's not approved in the USA, so you won't find it in sunscreens from the US (not because it's no good, but because US regulations make it impossible to approve new sunscreen agents), but it is widely available in other parts of the world like Europe, Australia or Asia.
