Role: HUMECTANT/SOLVENT

Family: HUMECTANT/SOLVENT

Comedogenic index: 0

METHYLPROPANEDIOL is an excellent substitute for other glycols such as propylene or butylene glycol.

Methylpropanediol, also known as MPD, is an alkanediol. It is synthesized commercially from allyl alcohol by a two-step chemical reaction. It is a clear, colorless, viscous liquid.

Uses and benefits :
Methylpropanediol is mainly used as a solvent. It is clear, colorless and has good solubility for other ingredients. It is inert and does not react with other formulation components. Its low viscosity prevents dispersion separation and keeps pigments in suspension. It is used in both leave-on and rinse-off products.
It can be combined with other solvents, enabling different types of ingredients to be incorporated into a formulation. It is used in skin care products, hair care products, decorative cosmetics, perfumes and sun care products.

Its main role is as a solvent, but it also has excellent antimicrobial properties and acts as a true preservative booster. It also helps moisturize the skin without leaving a sticky sensation.
