Octyldodecanol is a clear, slightly yellow, odorless oil that is a very common, medium-propagating emollient. It makes skin pleasantly soft and works in a wide range of formulas. Octyldodecanol is a fatty alcohol mainly used to improve product texture.

As an emulsifier, Octyldodecanol helps prevent the separation of oils and waters. It also prevents foaming when ingredients are agitated.

Octyldodecanol is created by reducing a fatty acid to an alcohol.
Due to its high molecular weight, it is not absorbed through the skin.
