What is "OLEYL LINOLEATE" and what does it do?
Role: LIGHT EMOLLIENT
Family: Esterified oil (Esterified emollient)
Comedogenic index: 0
OLEYL LINOLEATE is an emollient obtained by esterification.
"Oleyl" refers to oleyl alcohol (octadec-9-en-1-ol - an unsaturated fatty alcohol) as the alcoholic part of a compound, the "linoleate" salts/esters of linoleic acid (octadeca-9,12-dienoic acid) as the fatty acid component.
OLEYL LINOLEATE acts as an emollient (makes skin supple and smooth). An esterified oil is a vegetable oil that has been transformed by a chemical esterification reaction.
This reaction consists in breaking down the main components of a vegetable oil (triglycerides) and recombining the resulting molecules (fatty acids) with molecules foreign to vegetable oils (natural or petrochemical alcohols).
