Perlite is a natural volcanic rock extract that is reduced to fine particles for use in exfoliating products as an alternative to plastic beads. In addition to its exfoliating properties, perlite's absorbent properties help eliminate sebum in facial care products and neutralize unpleasant odors in deodorants.

Perlite has a very high absorption capacity, giving it a mattifying effect in make-up applications and a dry feel after liquids have been absorbed, thus avoiding a sticky feel in skin and sun care products. It is also effective at retaining fragrances.
