Role: EMOLLIENT/EMULSIFIER/TEXTURE
Family: PHOSPHOLIPIDS
Comedogenic index: 0
Phospholipids are found naturally in our skin, as they are the main component of cell membranes. Phospholipids have humectant, emollient and antioxidant properties.
The phospholipids present in our skin can be naturally depleted. Replenishing the phospholipids in our skin can help moisturize your skin. Due to their hygroscopic nature, they act as humectants and emollients. Humectants draw moisture from the air to your skin, while emollients help lock in moisture. This ingredient is non-occlusive.
Phospholipids are complex lipids containing glycerine, two fatty acids and a phosphate group. Some foods containing phospholipids include soybeans and milk. The phospholipids present in soy come from lecithin. This ingredient can also be created synthetically.
