What is "POTASSIUM SORBATE" and what does it do?
Role: CONSERVATIVE

Comedogenic index: 0
Potassium sorbate is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, used as a preservative in cosmetic products. Although it can be obtained naturally, most potassium sorbate is produced synthetically.
This preservative is often used in combination with other preservatives, due to its relatively low activity. It has been judged safe up to concentrations of 10% by the independent Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel.
In skin care products, potassium sorbate is generally used in quantities of 1% or less.
Potassium sorbate is also used as a food preservative. It helps prevent the growth of yeasts and molds in products such as wine, cheese, yoghurt and cured meats.
POTASSIUM SORBATE is a weak preservative against bacteria. It is more effective against molds and yeasts.
To do this, it has to break down into its active form, sorbic acid.
If you see potassium sorbate, you should see another preservative next to it.
