What is "SODIUM CITRATE" and what does it do?
Role: PH ADJUSTER
Family:
Comedogenic index: 0
Sodium citrate is the sodium salt of citric acid. In cosmetics, it is used to modify pH levels and acts as a preservative.
Sodium citrate helps maintain a product's pH. The normal pH of the skin is slightly acidic (~4.75-5.5). Our skin's acidity is maintained by our glands and skin microbiome.
Sodium citrate is also a chelating agent. It neutralizes metal ions present in the water and prevents them from binding to other ingredients. This ensures that other ingredients are not altered.
