What is "VITIS VINIFERA SEED EXTRACT" and what does it do?

Role: PLANT EXTRACTS

Family: PLANT EXTRACTS Vine

Comedogenic index: 0

Vitis Vinifera seed extract is derived from grapevines. Grape seeds are a by-product of grape juice or wine production.

The components of grape seeds have numerous benefits for the skin. Studies have shown that they possess antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. They also contain many powerful antioxidants such as vitamins E and C, proanthocyanidins, polyphenols, flavonoids and anthocyanins. Proanthocyanidins have been shown to help even out skin tone.

Antioxidants help fight free radical molecules. These molecules are capable of damaging our cells and other genetic material. Antioxidants help stabilize free radicals by donating extra electrons. Grape seed extract can help reduce the signs of aging.

The antimicrobial properties of grape seeds could help treat acne. However, more research is needed to support this claim.

Action on pigmentation spots: Lin et al (in a scientific study) tested the efficacy of V. vinifera leaf extract on tyrosinase inhibitory activity. The presence of gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, rutin and trans-resveratrol in the extracts was detected using the HPLC method. V. vinifera leaf extract was shown to reduce tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner.

Grape seeds have also been found to help absorb UV rays. Grape-seed extract should not, however, replace your sunscreen.
