Amino Acids + Vit. B5 serum from The Ordinary is designed primarily for skin lacking moisture, prone to dehydration, tightness or loss of radiance. This product is designed to reinforce the cutaneous barrier and restore the skin's moisture balance. The minimalist formulation, highly concentrated in moisturizing active ingredients, makes it a relevant choice for sensitive, combination to dry skin, or anyone seeking deep hydration without an oily effect.
Formula Analysis: Key Assets
I see three major assets in this formula:
- Amino acids They reproduce the natural moisturizing factors (NMF) present in the skin. Their role is to capture and retain water in the epidermis, promoting long-lasting hydration and improved skin elasticity.
- Panthenol (Vitamin B5) This active ingredient is recognized for its repairing and soothing properties. It stimulates cell regeneration, calms irritation and strengthens the skin's barrier function.
- Sodium PCA Powerful humectant, it attracts water and binds it in the stratum corneum, optimizing skin hydration and suppleness.
The synergy of these active ingredients gives the product remarkable effectiveness in restoring and maintaining skin hydration, while respecting even the most sensitive skin.
Tips and Application Ritual
I recommend applying this serum morning and/or evening, on clean skin, before moisturizer. It fits perfectly into a minimalist routine or as a complement to other moisturizers. It is compatible with most active ingredients, including niacinamide, peptides and hyaluronic acid. I would, however, avoid combining it with highly exfoliating skin care products (AHA/BHA acids) during the same application to preserve skin tolerance.
My Final Verdict & Safety Opinion
This serum from The Ordinary features a short, fragrance- and alcohol-free formula, ideal for sensitive skin. Its light texture penetrates quickly without leaving a greasy film. The only drawback may be the slightly sticky sensation on application, which disappears in a few minutes. In conclusion, this is an excellent choice for safely moisturizing, soothing and strengthening skin on a daily basis.

Glue!
I usually wait until I've finished a product, or even used several bottles, before writing a review, but that's just not possible. This product leaves me with an ultra sticky effect, even when used in the evening I had to get up to clean my face and remove it all because it was so unpleasant. I've tried it 2-3 times in a row, but each time I get the same effect. I'll pass, I don't even know if I'll be able to recycle it for another use. A product that makes me not want to try other products from the brand right now, even if the composition is great on paper, the price is tiny, but the galenics and texture are to the rescue.
