Byoma is a British brand launched in 2020 focusing on skin barrier repair. Its philosophy: documented active ingredients (ceramides, niacinamide, PHA) in short, fragrance- and alcohol-free formulations at affordable prices.
The cutaneous barrier is composed of corneocytes held together by a lipid intercellular cement composed of ceramides (~50 %), cholesterol (~25 %) and free fatty acids (~15 %). When this cement breaks down: dehydration, penetration of irritants, inflammation. The Byoma tri-ceramide complex attempts to reconstruct this cement - applied biomimicry, consistent with available biological data.
«Byoma's barrier approach is scientifically sound. Biomimetic ceramides are used in medical dermatology to treat eczema and atopic dermatitis. Byoma transposes this logic into accessible cosmetic care.»

The tri-ceramide complex (ceramides + cholesterol + free fatty acids) is a biomimetic reconstitution of the lipid intercellular cement of the epidermis. This approach has been documented in medical dermatology for the treatment of atopic dermatitis and eczema (Elias PM et al., Arch Dermatol, 2009). Normal to oily skin score: 91 - optimal profile for this skin type.
Niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier by stimulating endogenous ceramides, regulates sebum and exerts an anti-inflammatory action (Draelos ZD et al., J Cosmet Dermatol, 2005). Green tea extract (EGCG) provides documented antioxidant activity against UV-induced free radicals.
Gel-cream texture, fast absorption, non-greasy finish. Redness score: 51 - suitable for skin with a tendency to blotch. Non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, alcohol-free.
My analysis
«Moisturizing Gel-Cream is the most complete product in the Byoma range. Sensitive skin score of +0.85: fully adapted. Its tri-ceramide + niacinamide combination offers a dual barrier/regulating action consistent with the literature. It's a relevant option for combination to oily skin looking for light hydration with serious barrier action.»
Verdict: - The most complete product in the range. Double barrier action + sebum regulation.

Zinc is a seborrheic regulator and antibacterial agent with documented action on Cutibacterium acnes. PHA (polyhydroxy acid) is a new-generation, high-molecular-weight exfoliant: its slower penetration into the epidermis reduces irritation compared to conventional AHAs (Green BA et al., Cutis, 2009). It simultaneously moisturizes during exfoliation - a real advantage.
Blemish score: 76.5 - the highest in the Byoma portfolio for this criterion. Dry skin score: 84.7 and oily skin score: 87.5 - a versatile profile for a wide range of skin types.
Sensitive skin score of -1.20: slight algorithmic caution. In practice, user feedback confirms good tolerance on reactive skin thanks to the gentleness of PHA versus conventional BHA/AHA.
Source : Green BA et al. Clinical and cosmeceutical uses of hydroxyacids. Clin Dermatol. 2009.
My analysis
«The zinc + PHA combination is relevant for acne-prone or blemish-prone skin that cannot tolerate conventional BHA serums. It is the first exfoliant recommended to introduce exfoliation on sensitive or reactive skin. Sensitive skin score of -1.20: slight caution, gradual introduction recommended.»
Verdict: - Well-tolerated corrective serum. Gentler zinc + PHA combination than conventional BHA serums.

Allantoin is a mild soothing and healing active documented for its gentle keratolytic and anti-irritant action. Topical probiotics support the cutaneous microbiome and enhance skin tolerance (Guéniche A et al., Eur J Dermatol, 2010). This combination of ceramides + allantoin + probiotics is consistent with a global barrier approach.
Symmetrical score: 51/100 on all criteria (imperfections, redness, blemishes, anti-aging) - multi-functional comfort product with no specific targeting. Identical scores for dry and oily skin (84) - universal profile.
Sensitive skin score of +0.10: suitable without reservation. Relevant after sun exposure, in air-conditioned environments or during periods of skin stress.

My analysis
«Balancing Face Mist is a comfort care product whose main appeal lies in its versatility and high tolerance score. Its action on rosacea reported by users is consistent with the soothing activity of allantoin and the support of the cutaneous microbiome by probiotics. A relevant option for reactive skin looking for a neutral daily care product.»
Verdict: - Versatile comfort care. Excellent tolerance. Suitable for reactive skin and stressful environments.

Squalane is a biomimetic emollient - its structure is identical to the squalane naturally produced by human sebocytes. Penetration is rapid, with no residual greasy film, and tolerance on reactive skin has been documented. Glycerin is the benchmark humectant, capturing atmospheric water and transferring it to the surface layers of the epidermis.
Dry skin score: 91/100 - the highest in the Byoma portfolio for this criterion. Redness score: 68 - relevant for rosacea and blotchy skin profiles. Imperfections score: 0 - this serum is not suitable for acne-prone skin with imperfections.
Sensitive skin score of +0.05: perfectly adapted. Absence of potentially irritating active ingredients (no hyaluronic acid, no niacinamide, no high-concentration panthenol). Streamlined formula, consistent with maximum tolerance positioning.
My analysis
«Hydrating Serum is a relevant option for dry, dehydrated or rosacea-prone skin seeking pure hydration without corrective active ingredients. Its absence of irritating active ingredients (AH, niacinamide) explains the tolerance reported on very reactive skin. Combine with Moisturizing Gel-Cream to complete the barrier action.»
Verdict: - Pure moisturizing serum. Maximum dry skin score (91). Ideal for reactive to rosacea-prone skin.

4/5 «No hyaluronic acid, niacinamide or panthenol - just enough to moisturize without irritating my rosacea-prone skin. Result: significantly less redness after a week.»
5/5 «A real nugget: glowy, deeply moisturized skin.»
4/5 «Fluid and moisturizing for normal to combination skin. I alternate it every third night with retinol and exfoliant.»
4/5 «Nice, but better to use on pre-moistened skin (mist or lotion) to maximize hydration.»

Enriched formula: tri-ceramides + squalane + shea butter. Shea butter provides anti-inflammatory triterpenes and complementary occlusivity to squalane. Anti-ageing score: 62.9 - the highest of Byoma creams, consistent with the barrier action of ceramides on skin ageing.
Dry skin score: 82.6 - profile well-suited to dry to normal skin. Oily skin score: 56 - rich texture potentially too occlusive for oily skin in a daytime routine.
Sensitive skin score: 0.00 - neutral, suitable without reservation. Fragrance-free, alcohol-free, no controversial preservatives.
My analysis
«Rich Cream is a relevant option for dry to normal skin, especially on retinoids (buffering effect on irritation) or as a winter treatment. Too occlusive for oily skin during the day. Its anti-aging score of 62.9 is the best in the cream range - consistent with the action of ceramides in restoring the lipidic film, which declines with age».»
Verdict: - Rich moisturizing reference for dry skin. Too occlusive for oily skin in summer.

Cleanser without aggressive sulfates (SLS/SLES), light foam, skin is not tight after rinsing. The formula avoids irritating surfactants in favor of gentle surfactants (cocamidopropyl betaine, glucoside derivatives). Oily skin score: 84 - suitable for combination to oily skin.
Sensitive skin score of -1.00: slight caution due to the presence of Phenoxyethanol. This preservative is authorized in Europe up to 1 % and is well tolerated by adults under normal conditions of use. It is not recommended by Que Choisir for infants, due to potentially greater cutaneous absorption.
Dry skin score: 0 - this cleanser is not formulated for very dry skin. This is the only Byoma product not to reach 100/100 on BeautyDecoded, creating an inconsistency with the brand's ultra-clean positioning.
My analysis
«Effective cleanser in terms of performance: cleanses deeply without damaging the skin barrier. The presence of Phenoxyethanol contrasts with the rest of the Byoma range and is worth mentioning. For adults with normal skin, this product is a relevant option. For highly reactive skin or infants, other cleansers in the range (Milky Oil, Melting Balm) are preferable.»
Verdict: - Effective cleanser. Phenoxyethanol consistent with adult standards. Inconsistent with the range's clean positioning.

5/5 «Does not dry out the skin, cleanses thoroughly. Good performance/tolerance ratio.»
5/5 «Cleanses thoroughly with a very pleasant texture.»

Is Byoma suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, for most products. Gel-Cream (+0.85), Hydrating Serum (+0.05), Rich Cream (0.00) and Balancing Mist (+0.10) are fully adapted according to BeautyDecoded scores. Clarifying Serum (-1.20) and Creamy Jelly Cleanser (-1.00) require slight caution and gradual introduction.
What is the Byoma tri-ceramide complex?
A blend of ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids whose proportions reproduce the natural composition of the epidermis' intercellular cement. This is the same approach as CeraVe, but with a different formulation and positioning. This strategy has been documented in medical dermatology for the treatment of atopic dermatitis.
Is PHA less effective than AHAs?
Not less effective - differently effective. PHA exfoliates more slowly (high molecular weight, reduced skin penetration) but simultaneously moisturizes and irritates significantly less. It is the recommended exfoliant for introducing exfoliation on sensitive or reactive skin before progressing to AHAs.
What about Phenoxyethanol in Creamy Jelly Cleanser?
Phenoxyethanol is a preservative authorized in Europe up to 1 %. It is well tolerated by adults with normal skin under normal conditions of use. It is not recommended for infants by Que Choisir. Its presence contrasts with the ultra-clean positioning of the rest of the Byoma range - it's the only product that doesn't reach 100/100 on BeautyDecoded.
Are Byoma products compatible with pregnancy?
The Byoma products analyzed do not contain any active ingredients formally contraindicated during pregnancy. Consult your doctor or midwife for any routine adjustments during this period.
