Visit biomimicry of the skin barrier.

CeraVe has built its entire identity around one principle: reconstitute the epidermis' lipid intercellular cement using the same molecules as those naturally present - ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II, the three most important forms in the human epidermis. The principle is the same as that used in medical dermatology to treat atopic dermatitis and eczema: reconstitute rather than mask.

01

Three synergistic ceramides documented

Ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II - the three most common forms in human epidermis. Their association is documented as more effective than any single ceramide. Biomimetic approach consistent with the natural composition of intercellular cement (ceramides ~50 %, cholesterol ~25 %, free fatty acids ~15 %).

02

MVE Technology - 24h release

Visit Multi-Vesicular Emulsion is a patented sustained-release technology. The active ingredients (ceramides, HA, niacinamide) are encapsulated in concentric vesicles of different sizes. Each layer gradually breaks down, releasing the active ingredients. over 24 hours rather than a single peak - real formulatory differentiation.

Editorial reading

«The principle behind CeraVe is the same as that used in medical dermatology to treat atopic dermatitis and eczema: reconstitute intercellular cement rather than simply masking dryness. The difference with conventional moisturizing marquess is fundamental - which explains the massive prescription by dermatologists.»

✅ Sensitivity verdict Unreservedly suitable (score: +0.60). Consistent with dermatological positioning. Oily skin score 0: formula too occlusive - use contraindicated on oily or acne-prone skin.
«Moisturizing Balm is the CeraVe benchmark for very dry, atopic or winter-treatment skin. Its maximum dry skin score (91) and positive sensitivity score (+0.60) make it a relevant option as a complement to dermatological treatments for atopic dermatitis. Directions for use: apply to damp skin (just after showering), in a thin layer over the face. The Vaseline film maximizes the moisturizing effect of HA, preventing it from evaporating. Oily skin score 0: exclude from this profile».»

User signals. BeautyDecoded score of 3.72/5 out of 9 reviews - the lowest in the CeraVe catalog. Criticisms mainly concern the presence of controversial compounds (potential endocrine disruptors) reported by some users, and insufficient hydration for some very dry skins in winter. The North American formulation may differ slightly from the European one.
«Crème Hydratante Visage is a relevant daily moisturizing base for normal to dry skin. Its sensitivity score of +0.90 and lightness make it an adaptable option. The user score (3.72) is lower than other CeraVe products - reviews of controversial ingredients are worth mentioning for composition-conscious profiles.»
User feedback
★★★★★«Excellent moisturizing cream: top composition, ceramides, niacinamide, fragrance- and alcohol-free, non-greasy fluid texture. Used every evening.»
★★★★«Very good cream for dry to oily skin, resistant to sport and cold.»
★★★«Good hydration but doesn't last all day. Skin feels tight after a few hours in winter.»
★★★«Great moisturizing cream but presence of potential endocrine disruptors reported - hinders loyalty.»
★★★«Good for the price but alternatives exist with a more impeccable composition.»
Verdict - Light moisturizing base for normal to dry skin. User rating lower than the rest of the range - composition debated by attentive profiles.

Documented limit. Insufficient to remove dense sunscreen residues or waterproof make-up - use after a suitable make-up remover. Behavior consistent with the gentle, non-occlusive formulation.
«Hydrating Cleanser is the CeraVe benchmark for dry to sensitive skin. Its zero sensitivity score (0) and the absence of any irritating agents make it a relevant option for dermatological post-treatment (laser, peeling, retinoic acid). To be combined with a make-up remover for skins using dense sun protection. »
User feedback
★★★★★«My default cleanser. Gentle, non-tugging skin after washing. Used after cleansing balm.»
★★★★★«Visible repairing effect on dehydrated and sensitive combination skin. My 10-year-old daughter also uses it.»
★★★★«Only downside: limited effectiveness in removing thick sunscreen residue.»

✅ Sensitivity verdict Suitable (score: +0.60). Good profile on reactive acne-prone skin.
«Foaming Cleanser is a relevant option for normal to oily skin with imperfections looking for effective cleansing without damaging the barrier. Its dry skin score of 42 excludes dry profiles. The value for money (€10 / 236 ml) is unbeatable in this segment - user rating 4.41/5 out of 22 reviews confirming the double advantage: effectiveness without drying or irritation.»

«Anti-Imperfections Gel is the right option for oily to acne-prone skin looking for a cleanser with corrective action. Sensitive skin score -1.70: to be avoided on sensitive, dry skin. User feedback (4.50/5 out of 33 reviews) confirms real effectiveness on blemishes. Some users use it as a shower gel for the back - an appropriate alternative use. The dual mechanism of cleansing + gentle BHA exfoliation makes it the cleanser best suited to oily skin with chronic imperfections.»

★★★★★«Does the job, rinses easily. Economical.»
★★★★★«I love it - doesn't cause plaques.»

Ceramides compensate for retinoid-induced dryness and desquamation - a formulating strategy documented to improve tolerance. Anti-aging score 88,4 and stains 83,3 - profile consistent with the retinoid mechanism.

Retinol precautions. Usage exclusive nocturne. SPF 50+ mandatory in the morning. Contraindicated during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Gradual introduction: 2 evenings/week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
ℹ️
Concentration not indicated. CeraVe does not specify the concentration of retinol - the formulatory limit for calibrating an increase in load. This lack of transparency contrasts with SVR or Nooance, which do specify their concentrations.
«CeraVe Retinol Serum is a relevant option for starting a retinoid protocol, thanks to its combination of encapsulated retinol + compensatory ceramides. Its anti-aging (88.4) and blemish (83.3) scores are consistent. The non-indicated concentration is the main point of vigilance - as opposed to formulatory transparency, which is a criterion of credibility. For profiles seeking a documented gradual build-up, alternatives such as SVR or Nooance specify their concentrations.»
User feedback
★★★★★«Light texture. After 3 months, more uniform complexion. Appearance of small white spots (purging) transient and normal.»
★★★★★«Perfect to replace my retinal serums this summer - no retinization on return. I now use it on my neck.»
★★★★«Irritated and reactive skin despite spacing of applications - profile not compatible with retinol.»
★★★★«Effective on acne marques and texture. Moisturizing to boot.»
★★★«Third retinol tested - no visible effect. Pores not smoothed in the morning. Will not repurchase.»
Verdict - Good initiation retinol with compensatory ceramides. Anti-aging 88.4 and blemishes 83.3. Concentration not indicated - limits protocol calibration.

⚠️ Sensitivity verdict Slight caution recommended (score: -0.50). Linked to UV filters - chemical filters can be irritating for a minority of reactive profiles.
ℹ️
Long UVA limit. This SPF does not filter long UVA rays (380-400 nm). For maximum anti-ageing protection, the filter Mexoryl 400 (La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400) remains the benchmark for this specific criterion.
«AM Lotion SPF50 is a relevant option for profiles that refuse to superimpose a separate moisturizer and SPF. Its integration of ceramides in a daily SPF is consistent with the brand's barrier positioning. Limitation: does not filter long UVA rays - worth knowing for profiles seeking maximum anti-aging photoprotection. Moderate anti-aging score (43.35): the main anti-aging benefit comes from photoprotection itself, not from cosmetic active ingredients.»
User feedback
★★★★★«I use it every day in winter in the south. Perfect texture and finish - combines hydration and protection without an extra layer.»
★★★★★«Combines all the factors: you don't have to wear extra protection. Pleasant texture.»
Verdict - Practical daily SPF with ceramides. Excellent all-in-one format. Limited on long UVA.

Is CeraVe recognized by dermatologists?
Yes - it's one of the most prescribed marquess in dermatology worldwide. It is included in the official recommendations of several dermatology societies for the management of atopic dermatitis. This practice is based on the documented quality of the ceramides + MVE Technology complex.
What's the difference between Moisturizing Cream and Moisturizing Balm?
Visit Cream is a balanced emulsion for normal to dry skin (oily skin score 56 - can be used on combination skin). Visit Balm is more occlusive with vaseline and lanolin (oily skin score 0 - contraindicated on oily skin), formulated for very dry, atopic skin or intensive winter treatment.
CeraVe is owned by L'Oréal - does this change the quality of the formulations?
The acquisition by L'Oréal dates back to 2017. Formulations have not been downgraded to date: BeautyDecoded scores remain at 100/100, and dermatologists continue to prescribe it en masse. This point is worth mentioning, as some composition-aware profiles report the presence of controversial compounds in the Face Cream - to be verified depending on the batch.
CeraVe vs Avène: which to choose?
Two complementary philosophies. CeraVe targets barrier reconstruction through biomimicry (ceramides + MVE). Avene targets soothing with thermal spring water (ultra-minimalist formulas). For dry to atopic skin: CeraVe repairs better. For post-treatment or inflammatory skin: Avène soothes better. Both can be combined.
CeraVe vs Byoma: what's the difference?
Both marquess use a similar ceramide/biomimetic approach. CeraVe has wider distribution (parapharmacies, supermarkets), a more extensive catalog and a deeper dermatological history (since 2005). Byoma is younger (2020), with a modern design positioning. On the main active ingredients (ceramides + cholesterol + fatty acids), they are equivalent - the choice is based on availability, packaging and sensory preferences.
Is CeraVe compatible with pregnancy?
The majority of our products (Balms, Creams, Cleansers) contain no active ingredients that are contraindicated during pregnancy. Formal exception: Retinol Serum is contraindicated during pregnancy and breast-feeding.. Consult your doctor or midwife for any routine adjustments.
What exactly is MVE Technology?
Visit Multi-Vesicular Emulsion is a patented encapsulation technology. The active ingredients (ceramides, HA, niacinamide) are encapsulated in concentric vesicles of different sizes. Each layer gradually breaks down on contact with the skin, releasing the active ingredients. over 24 hours rather than a single peak. It's this technology that sets CeraVe apart from competing moisturizers with the same INCI list.

«CeraVe occupies a solid dermatological positioning: documented biomimetic ceramides, patented MVE Technology, massive prescription in medical dermatology. The catalog is coherent and consistent - the Face Cream and the opacity on retinol concentration are the only points worth discussing.»
