Ajuga turkestanica is a perennial plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family, with over 300 species spread across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and North America. Native to Uzbekistan, this plant contains a compound called turkesterone, known for its steroid-like effects.

History and Medicinal Applications
Traditionally, Ajuga turkestanica has been used in a variety of medicinal treatments to relieve fevers, toothache, dysentery, malaria, hypertension, diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders. It has antifungal, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antimycobacterial and diuretic properties. Some athletes and bodybuilders have also used it as a natural substitute for anabolic steroids, thanks to its phytoecdysteroid content.

Ajuga turkestanica, rich in bioactive compounds, is found in many dietary supplements designed for bodybuilding. Historically, it has been used in traditional treatments for heart disease, stomach and muscle pain.
