What is "ASIATIC ACID" and what does it do?

Role: ASSETS

Family: Active Centella asiatica

Comedogenic index: 0

Asiatic acid is a powerful antioxidant found naturally in many plants such as Centella asiatica. It is widely used in skin care products for its protective properties against sun damage and skin aging.

Anti-aging effects
This compound helps reduce glycation activity, a key factor in skin aging. It also offers significant soothing properties by acting on various skin pathways.
Stimulation of GAG and collagen production
In vitro studies have shown that asiatic acid also stimulates the production of GAGs (glycosaminoglycans - polysaccharides that form part of the fluid between our skin cells) as well as collagen I synthesis. This suggests that it probably contributes to Centella asiatica's well-established moisturizing and healing capacities.

Challenges and solutions
Although asiatic acid has low bioavailability due to its limited solubility, penetration-enhancing delivery systems can be employed to increase its effectiveness in topical care. Derivatives such as AAGS (asiatic acid and glucosamine) are also used.

Form and Dosage
Asiatic acid is a powerful antioxidant found naturally in many plants, including Centella asiatica, Actinidia arguta, Maytenus procumbens and Psidium guajava. It comes as a white powder in its raw material state, and is used in concentrations generally ranging from 0.01 to 0.5%.
