What is "GALACTOARABINAN" and what does it do?
Role: TEXTURE
Family: Natural or hemisynthesized polymer
Comedogenic index: 0
Galactoarabinan is a natural polysaccharide (a large carbohydrate molecule) derived from larch trees.
It could reduce transepidermal water loss, improve the appearance of fine superficial skin wrinkles, enhance the uniformity and spreadability of a formulation and increase the effectiveness of sun protection. In addition to hydration, it also enhances the exfoliating benefits of alpha-hydroxy acids such as lactic acid, and helps improve formula stability and diffusion.
Derived from the North American larch tree, galactoarabinan also has skin-soothing properties clinically proven to reduce signs of erythema - an elegant term for redness. Other research has shown that a blend of polysaccharides, including galactoarabinan, improves the skin's ability to tolerate retinol. The film this ingredient forms on the skin is able to reduce the penetration of atmospheric pollutants, helping to protect the skin from this type of environmental damage.
