Role in skin: It is a natural component of skin oil and reinforces the skin's innate defenses by strengthening its microbiome.
Cosmetics functions
Multiple uses: Used as a cleansing agent, humectant and emulsifier in cosmetic formulations.
Antimicrobial activity: Studies have shown that lauric acid possesses antimicrobial properties, making it useful in the treatment of acne. However, it should be noted that it also has a high comedogenic index.
Technical and safety aspects
Appearance: In crude form, it appears as a colorless solid or a white or yellow, slightly shiny crystalline powder.
Concentration in Cosmetics: Generally used at concentrations below 10% in cosmetic formulas, but considered safe up to 25%.
