In addition, its menthol content may provide a sensation of freshness.

Precautions for use
It's important to note that peppermint essential oil can cause allergic reactions in some people, due to compounds such as limonene. It is therefore not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with a history of seizure or epileptic disorders. It is recommended to use with caution, and to carry out a skin test before wider application.

Origin and history
Peppermint, native to the Middle East, is a hybrid of water mint and spearmint. Today, it is widespread throughout the world, including Europe, North America and Australia.

Mythological background and ancestral uses
In Greek mythology, mint is associated with the legend of Mintha, a nymph transformed into a plant by the jealous wife of Hades. Historically, mint has been used in various rituals, notably to soothe fevers.

Essential Oil Extraction
Peppermint essential oil is obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves. This process extracts the volatile compounds from the leaves by heating, resulting in the separation of the hydrosol and the essential oil.
