What is MYRISTIC ACID and what does it do?

Role: EMULSIFIANT

Family: FATTY ACID, POSSIBLY COMEDOGENIC INGREDIENT

Comedogenic index: 3

Myristic acid, also known as tetradecanoic acid, is a long-chain saturated fatty acid from natural sources. It is found naturally in palm oil, nutmeg butter, coconut oil, cow's milk and even in a certain proportion in breast milk.

This fatty acid may be comedogenic.

Myristic acid is mainly used as an emulsifier and surfactant. In cosmetic products, it provides stability, preventing the product's oil- and water-based components from separating. It thickens the emulsion and reinforces its stability. As a surfactant, it serves as a base in cleaning products. It mixes with water and oily dirt particles, which can then be easily rinsed off the skin.
