Description of Silica
Silica is an abundant mineral in sandstone, clay and granite, as well as in parts of plants and animals. Silica can also be produced synthetically, and both forms are regularly used as absorbent powders and thickening agents in cosmetics. Some forms of silica can improve the even distribution of pigments in cosmetics and prevent them from settling into the make-up, ensuring smooth, even application.
Silica can also enhance the protective capacity of the mineral sunscreen ingredient titanium dioxide.
