What is THEOBROMA CACAO SEED BUTTER and what does it do?

Role: OCCLUSIVE

Family: CACAO BUTTER,INGREDIENT POSSIBLY COMEDOGEN Cacao

Comedogenic index: 4

Cocoa butter, extracted from the beans of this tropical tree native to the rainforests of Amazonia, is a pale yellow edible vegetable fat. Today, this tree is also found in West Africa and tropical Asia. With its characteristic odor, it contains triglycerides such as palmitic, stearic and oleic acids.

Cocoa butter is renowned for its moisturizing properties, particularly on very dry skin. Rich in fatty acids, it fills the epidermis' lipid deficit, due in particular to aging. Its film-forming action limits water loss from the skin, leaving it soft and supple. It also enables other cosmetic ingredients to better penetrate the epidermis. In addition, studies have shown that its polyphenols improve skin tone and elasticity, while slightly stimulating collagen synthesis.

Cocoa butter is potentially comedogenic.

Cocoa butter-based products have been flooding the market for years. In addition to creams and lotions, it is used in make-up, conditioners and balms. Thanks to its ability to melt at body temperature, it is rapidly absorbed, bringing thickness and stability to many cosmetic formulations.
