Effaclar Gel by La Roche-Posay is a facial cleanser specifically formulated for oily, acne-prone skin. Its cleansing base combines sodium laureth sulfate and coco-betaine, two surfactants that effectively remove excess sebum, impurities and residues without excessively unbalancing the hydrolipidic film. Zinc PCA is the formula's key active ingredient: it regulates sebaceous gland activity by partially inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase, helping to reduce sebum production over the long term and limit the appearance of dilated pores. Pomegranate (*Punica granatum*) pericarp extract provides antioxidant and astringent properties, helping to tighten pores and protect against oxidative stress. Hexylene glycol and pentylene glycol ensure good skin tolerance, while reinforcing the formula's preservative effect. This gel is suitable for oily, combination to oily and blemish-prone skin, including sensitive skin, thanks to its pH adjustment with citric acid and sodium citrate. However, it is not recommended for dry or dehydrated skin, for which such active surfactants could accentuate skin discomfort.
