Pigment spots : WHAT IT IS ?

Pigment spots are small areas of darker coloration, generally brown and oval, due to localized overproduction of melanin. They appear mainly on the face, but also on the décolleté, shoulders and back of hands. Contrary to popular belief, they affect all skin types and shades.

Important

A stain that changes appearance (size, shape, color), itching or bleeding should be shown to a dermatologist without delay. Cosmetic treatments are intended for benign pigmented spots, never for suspicious lesions.

What causes pigmentation spots?

The main cause is repeated unprotected exposure to the sun: UV rays stimulate melanin production and accelerate photoaging. Other factors also come into play:

Visit hormonal variations (pregnancy, contraceptive pill), the cause of melasma; ;

Taking certain photosensitizing drugs ;

A genetic predisposition.

Hence the simple principle that the best anti-stain strategy begins with the daily sun protection. Without it, no lightening active ingredient will produce lasting results.

The Typology brand

Typology is a French brand known for its short, easy-to-read formulas, centered on a main active ingredient that is clearly dosed and named in the product title. This minimalist approach has an advantage in cosmetology: it makes it easier to read the INCI and identify the key active ingredient, which fits in well with BeautyDecoded's analysis approach.

Building a routine effective anti-stain.

Morning: an antioxidant vitamin C serum, followed by SPF 50 sun protection - the No. 1 anti-spot gesture.

Evening: a tranexamic acid serum on spots, and a glycolic exfoliant once or twice a week (never on the same evening as another strong acid).

Year-round : renew sun protection and limit exposure, otherwise spots will return.

Key points to remember

The results on stains are progressive (often several months) and conditioned by rigorous sun protection. Avoid masking spots with thick layers of make-up, and consult a dermatologist if you have any doubts about a lesion.

Your questions about pigment spots.

Which active ingredients combat pigmentation spots?
Preventive sun protection, followed by active ingredients such as tranexamic acid, vitamin C and exfoliating acids (glycolic). Niacinamide and azelaic acid are also useful. Results are progressive.
How long does it take to fade a stain?
Several weeks to several months, depending on the depth of the blemish and regularity of care. Sun protection is the key to these results: without it, blemishes recur.
Is sun protection really essential?
Yes, this is the most important element. Since UV rays are the main cause of blemishes, no skin-lightening active ingredient will give lasting results without daily SPF 50 protection.
When should you see a dermatologist?
At the slightest change in a spot's appearance (size, shape, color), in the event of itching or bleeding. Cosmetic treatments are intended only for benign pigmentation spots.
What is the BeautyDecoded application?
A mobile application for cosmetic analysis using artificial intelligence. It analyzes INCI lists and generates compatibility scores for 80 skin types. It does not replace a medical consultation, but helps to objectify product selection according to a skin profile.

Information for educational purposes only. It does not replace a medical consultation. A spot that changes appearance, itches or bleeds should be shown to a dermatologist without delay: cosmetic treatments are intended only for benign pigmentation spots. Daily SPF 50 sun protection is the cornerstone of any anti-spot strategy. Exfoliating agents (glycolic acid) and vitamin C are photosensitizing and are introduced gradually; glycolic acid in high concentrations is not suitable for sensitive skin.
