Scientific deciphering - BeautyDecoded

Reviews and best anti-spot treatments for dry skin.

The appearance of brown spots linked to hyperpigmentation is becoming increasingly frequent. Often caused by overexposure to the sun, untreated skin problems or a reaction to perfume, hyperpigmentation is the most common cause of dark spots. facial blemishes are most visible on the face, hands and décolleté. This article deciphers their causes, explains how to choose a skincare product according to your phototype, and offers a selection for dry skin cross-referenced with BeautyDecoded scores and user feedback.

This content is for information and educational purposes only. It does not constitute medical advice, and recommendations must be adapted to each individual. The application BeautyDecoded analyzes INCI formulations using artificial intelligence to identify the right cosmetics for each skin type.

Where do brown spots ?

Affecting more than 90 % of women, all skin types combined, the’hyperpigmentation is explained by a disturbance in natural pigmentation: an excessive accumulation of melanin. Although they have no effect on health, these spots can nevertheless become a nuisance in everyday life. Their main causes are :

The sun, the primary cause: its UV rays stimulate pigmentation.

Genetic predisposition.

Hormones, especially during pregnancy.

Age, with age spots linked to sun exposure.

Phototype, i.e. the skin's natural color, determines susceptibility to spots: the darker the skin, the more likely it is to develop brown spots, while fairer skins tend to develop freckles. Hence the importance of using a high level of sun protection as early as possible, the only real preventive measure. Freckles, on the other hand, are genetically programmed to appear no matter what.

How to choose its anti-spot care ?

Most anti-spot skincare products have similar effects, but there are a few criteria to help you make the right choice, especially for dry skin.

Dry to normal skin

An anti-spot serum is ideal because it is rich, nourishing and easy to use.

Oily skin

Use a local care product or an oil-free serum to avoid overloading the skin.

Phototype

Take this into account, as sensitivity to stains and active ingredients depends on it.

Specific to dry skin

This skin type tolerates rich textures and emollient active ingredients, but remains sensitive to over-drying formulas (certain acids, certain vitamins C). The verdict of sensitivity (Dr David's rule) is therefore an invaluable reference in the selection below.

Visit phototypes skin.

Phototype categorizes skin types according to their color, combined with eye and hair color. There are seven different phototypes. The higher the phototype, the greater the need for caution with exfoliating active ingredients and powerful treatments, due to the risk of reactive hyperpigmentation.

Build your anti-spot routine on dry skin.

The aim is to act effectively on blemishes without drying out or irritating already dry skin. The following progression limits the risks.

The morning

Gentle cleaning, vitamin C (Geek & Gorgeous C Glow or diluted Garancia), followed by a tranexamic acid serum, rich moisturizer and SPF 50+ sun protection - essential, as the sun is the primary cause of dark spots.

In the evening

Cleaning, retinoid (Granactive Retinoid to start, then The Ordinary retinal) every second or third night, accompanied by a nourishing moisturizer. Increase the frequency very gradually.

Golden rule for dry skin

Introduce only one active ingredient at a time, always accompanied by good hydration, and never superimpose vitamin C, retinoids and acids on the same evening. The daily sun protection is still the most effective way to combat stains.

Your questions about anti-stain care.

Which anti-spot skincare should you choose for dry skin?
Choose rich serums and emulsions based on effective yet well-tolerated active ingredients: tranexamic acid, retinal or mild retinoids, diluted vitamin C. Avoid over-drying formulas, and always use a nourishing moisturizing cream.
Is sun protection really essential?
Yes, it's the most important thing to do. The sun is the primary cause of brown spots and reactivates pigmentation, even after treatment. Daily SPF 50+ protection is non-negotiable, even in winter.
How long before I see results?
Stain reduction is a slow process, taking from several weeks to several months, depending on the stain's activity and depth. Regularity and patience are essential, as users often remind us.
Can vitamin C and retinoids be combined?
Yes, but at different times: vitamin C in the morning, retinoid in the evening. Superimposing them on the same evening increases the risk of irritation, especially on dry skin. Introduce active ingredients one at a time.
What is the BeautyDecoded application?
BeautyDecoded is a mobile application for cosmetic analysis using artificial intelligence. It analyzes INCI lists and generates compatibility scores for 80 skin types. It does not replace a medical consultation, but helps to objectify product selection according to a skin profile.

Information for educational purposes only. It does not replace a medical consultation. BeautyDecoded algorithmic scores do not prejudge the individual tolerance of each user: a test on a small area and, in case of doubt, the advice of a dermatologist are still recommended. Powerful anti-spot active ingredients (pure vitamin C, retinoids) are gradually being introduced, and caution is advised on high phototypes due to the risk of reactive hyperpigmentation.
