The Ordinary's azelaic acid suspension is an excellent product for improving certain very specific problems. Azelaic acid is an under-rated active ingredient, rather difficult to formulate, which has numerous actions: it is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, regulates keratinocyte proliferation and reduces lipids on the skin's surface, diminishing facial spots.

Description

Within the first few weeks of application, you'll notice :
Reduced imperfections: the anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory action of azelaic acid helps prevent the development of pimples and the inflammation of scars, responsible for their pink or red color.
A more matte complexion: azelaic acid splits the fatty acids naturally present on the skin, reducing the shine that appears during the day.
Less visible pigmentation spots: azelaic acid prevents the development of brown spots by acting directly on localized overproduction of melanin.
A reduction in rosacea: thanks to its anti-inflammatory and well-tolerated action, azelaic acid is particularly suitable for the treatment of acne rosacea.

How do I use The Ordinary azelaic acid?

Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% from The ordinary has a fairly siliconized gel-cream texture, so you should apply it after gentle cleansing of the face and the application of a moisturizing lotion or serum. The lightest cosmetics should be applied before the most lipid-rich products. Azelaic acid may cause a tingling sensation at first, so if you have sensitive skin or rosacea, I recommend starting application every other day.

When to use azelaic acid

You can use azelaic acid if you have redness, rosacea or pigmentation problems. These pigmentations can be post-acne or post-sun exposure. Azelaic acid is an excellent ingredient for reducing acne and is very useful for mattifying oily skin.

How does azelaic acid work?

The 5 actions of azelaic acid are anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, reduces red and brown spots, reduces lipids on the skin's surface and regulates keratinocyte proliferation, "what we call gentle exfoliation".

What's the difference between azelaic acid and glycolic acid?

azelaic acid exfoliation

The difference between glycolic acid and salicylic acid exfoliation with azelaic acid is that azelaic acid stops the uncontrolled proliferation of keratinocytes. AHAs, on the other hand, work by exfoliating superficial epidermal cells.

Beauty decoded's opinion

Thanks to its 10% assay, serum at azelaic acid The Ordinary is effective on pigmentation spots, inflammation, rosacea and blemishes. It can be used both in the morning and evening if you can tolerate it. However, I advise you to start using this type of cosmetic product gradually, as every other day is a good start. It may cause tingling sensations if you have sensitive skin. Its texture, halfway between a cream and a gel, makes for an even, pleasant but highly siliconized application. This is a cosmetic product I can recommend if you have acne, facial blemishes or skin texture problems.

As I have combination skin with couperose, I tried to incorporate azelaic acid from The Ordinary, a brand I love, into my daytime routine. I had a lot of trouble with this product, which is too fluffy. It's hard to apply. I had to abandon it in the morning and finished it in the evening just on my clean skin without any product afterwards. It tingled the skin on my cheeks. Azelaic acid is still a good ingredient, but not via this product for my skin.

The best ordinary product I've tested! It's an integral part of my morning routine, just before sun cream. It smoothes the skin while exfoliating it, very useful against small imperfections.

  3. Marjo and shaft -

We haven't been using it long enough to give you an opinion on its effectiveness. It's very pleasant to use, thanks in particular to the silicone it contains. Used in the evening before moisturizing or in the morning after vit c, we have no worries about lint. Slightly tingling, but we're only using it 3 times a week at the moment. Another review in a few months' time will back this one up.

  4. Kara Leonor -

This is a product I really wanted to incorporate into my routine but I don't like it at all. I've tried it a few different ways. Nothing worked. I don't recommend

  5. Célia B -

I really like its silicone texture.
Does not sting or sensitize the skin. As for the effect, I think it's there!
