Description
SQUALANE (Squalane, Hydrogenated Oil), CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, Simmondsia chinensis seed oil (Jojoba vegetable oil), RETINOL (Retinol), Tomato Fruit Extract (Tomato), ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS LEAF EXTRACT (Rosemary), Hydroxymethyoxyphenyl decanone, BHTMy Doctor's Diagnosis: Analysis and Target
The Ordinary's Retinol 1% in Squalane serum is primarily intended for people who want to target the signs of skin aging, including wrinkles, loss of firmness, and uneven skin tone. This product is part of a strategy to prevent and correct the signs of aging thanks to its high concentration of retinol, an active ingredient known for its effectiveness. The minimalist, tolerance-focused formula allows for optimal retinol penetration while limiting the risk of irritation thanks to the presence of soothing plant oils.
Formula Analysis: Key Assets
Three major active ingredients stand out in this formula. The retinol (1%) is a derivative of vitamin A, known to stimulate cell renewal, increase collagen production, and reduce wrinkles and pigmentation spots. The squalane, derived from olives, is a biomimetic emollient that restores the skin barrier and improves retinol tolerance by limiting dehydration. Finally,’jojoba oil provides essential fatty acids and soothing properties, enhancing skin suppleness. This synergy of active ingredients gives the product anti-aging effectiveness while preserving skin comfort.
Tips and Application Ritual
I recommend applying this serum in the evening to clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. It is essential to introduce the product gradually (once or twice a week at first) to limit the risk of irritation. This serum is incompatible with other potentially irritating active ingredients such as exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) or pure vitamin C. During the day, it is essential to apply sunscreen.
My Final Verdict & Safety Opinion
This serum stands out for its proven effectiveness on the signs of aging and its refined formula, which is well tolerated by most skin types. Its main advantage lies in the synergy between retinol and plant oils, which limits dryness. The only downside is that the oily texture may not be suitable for oily skin. In conclusion, this is an excellent choice for an anti-aging routine, provided that the usual precautions are followed.

Good product, good price
I haven't been using it long enough to confirm or deny its anti-ageing effectiveness, but I can already see that it has a positive effect on cell renewal.
At the moment I still have to use it every other day or three because it irritates my skin.
I need to complement it with a rich soothing cream.

Quite oily
oily texture, especially if you apply a moisturizer, then the skin becomes shiny, not too pleasant... I'm 25, after almost 1 year of using it 1 day out of 2, I haven't really found any exceptional results.
however, the concentration of 1% makes it an interesting product, and we'll have to see what the results are on more mature skin, perhaps...

Good serum, very good concentration
I use this serum in the evening, I don »t see too many results but it "s more for prevention because it has a very good concentration of 1%, the beginnings were quite complicated, especially in the décolleté area but my skin got used to it.

Efficient
To be used only in winter and stopped in summer.
I use it in the evening before my night cream.
This is the second winter I've used it, and my skin tolerates it very well.
I'll probably move up a level for next winter, 2%?

formula too greasy
I can't use this serum in the morning because it doesn't penetrate quickly and my face is oily. I help it penetrate by massaging it in, which is practical with the gua sha stones, but for the evening it still stains the pillow, as I have combination skin. Effectiveness: my skin is more supple and moisturized, but that's all I notice.

I don't think morning application is advisable, as retinol is degraded by UV rays.

Hello
I've been using it for 1 and a half years now, so I imagine it's doing its job well, and a friend of mine whom I hadn't seen for 1 year said to me in the evening, «You've gotten younger, what have you been doing?» So just for the compliment alone, I imagine it's not for nothing.
