Redness on the face: what beauty routine should you follow?

Choose a mild cleanser

To soothe your sensitive skin, nothing beats a gentle cleanser. No harsh, drying cleansers, and certainly no micro-grain exfoliators. You can double-cleanse in the evening with a cleansing make-up remover balm, massaging gently for 60 to 90 seconds, before rinsing with lukewarm water and applying a gentle, soap-free cleansing gel. Avoid rinsing with hot water, as this may worsen redness.

Use specific assets

There are also sheet-masks that can soothe sensitive skin if you have redness associated with a feeling of heat on the skin. Use sparingly, and place in the fridge if you wish for a cool, soothing effect.

Visit sensitive skins often tend to dehydrate easily. To remedy this, it's essential to moisturize your skin in the morning and every evening after double-cleansing. It's best to choose a soothing face cream, such as one based on hammamelis or centella asiatica. An alcohol-free face cream specially formulated for sensitive skin can be a great help.

Preserve your skin barrier

It's essential to preserve and strengthen your skin barrier in the event of redness. This means staying well hydrated, of course, and eating well. Don't hesitate to apply an occlusive before going to bed, as this is an excellent technique for maintaining hydration. If you're not familiar with the occlusive technique, it's a non-comedogenic fatty cream, or a very thin layer of Vaseline, to be applied over your skincare products in the evening before going to bed. The occlusive locks in moisture, giving the skin all night to hydrate, nourish and plump. Effective!

It's nothing new on this blog: we always recommend applying SPF 50 sun protection every morning, and several times a day if possible. Skin prone to redness needs even more protection from external aggressors like the sun. A rigorously applied sun protection program will help improve your complexion over time.

Even if this doesn't treat the problem in depth, using a foundation or bb cream will help even out your complexion. Be careful, however, to clean utensils such as sponges and brushes thoroughly to avoid the proliferation of bacteria that can trigger acne. You'll also need to double-cleanse in the evening to leave your skin perfectly clean.
