Remedy Copper Peptide Serum: A Breakdown of Dr. Shah’s Formula from Doctorly

Copper peptides have become one of the hottest anti-aging ingredients of the moment, driven by a wave of serums that compete over the number of ingredients listed in the INCI. Remedy, the brand founded by Dr. Muneeb Shah—an American dermatologist followed by millions of people under the name «The DermDoctor» and co-host of the Doctorly channel—has taken the opposite approach: a minimalist formula that combines GHK-Cu with a deliberately limited number of complementary active ingredients.

GHK-Cu: Well-Positioned, but Not Alone

First notable point: Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) ranks seventh, right after ectoine—a high enough position to indicate a truly active concentration, unlike many formulas where the copper peptide appears only at the very end of the list in homeopathic doses.

GHK-Cu is a peptide naturally present in the body, consisting of three amino acids bound to a copper ion, and is involved in tissue repair and extracellular matrix remodeling. In cosmetics, it primarily targets firmness, elasticity, and the appearance of wrinkles.

One caveat is in order, however: while the biological mechanism of GHK-Cu is well-established, the clinical evidence from human studies regarding its use in cosmetics remains far less robust than that available for retinoids. It acts as a complement, not a replacement.

Ectoine, the true hallmark of the formula

What really sets this serum apart from most copper-based competitors is the presence of ectoine in the 6th position, just before GHK-Cu.

Ectoine is an osmolyte naturally produced by certain microorganisms to help them survive in extreme environments. In cosmetics, it is known for its protective, moisturizing, and soothing properties, and helps minimize the effects of environmental stressors while strengthening the skin’s barrier function.

When combined with GHK-Cu, it changes the product's target audience: it is no longer just an anti-aging serum, but an anti-aging product designed for skin that cannot tolerate harsh active ingredients.

Two Peptides for Added Strength

The formula contains Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline), which targets expression lines and is often mistakenly referred to as «cosmetic Botox,» a misleading comparison given the difference in efficacy compared to injectable botulinum toxin, and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, a signaling peptide designed to improve firmness and reduce wrinkles.

The result is three complementary mechanisms rather than a mere accumulation of ingredients: GHK-Cu, Argireline, and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5. While it contains fewer peptides than some serums on the market, its overall formulation is more straightforward.

A soothing profile that's above average

This is undoubtedly the product’s true strength. Alongside ectoine, it contains allantoin (soothing), Centella asiatica (for sensitive and fragile skin), Biosaccharide Gum-1 (moisturizing and soothing), polyglutamic acid and sodium hyaluronate (hydration), as well as a Lactobacillus ferment, which helps support the skin’s barrier function. The formula is fragrance-free.

The result is a serum that focuses as much on hydration and skin comfort as it does on anti-aging.

An antioxidant boost—nothing more

It also contains superoxide dismutase (SOD), a natural antioxidant enzyme that neutralizes superoxide radicals, along with tocopherol (vitamin E) and turmeric extract. While this isn’t what makes the product effective, it cleverly complements the overall strategy without overburdening the formula.

For which skin type?

The formula contains very little oil and is based on humectants, soothing agents, and peptides: it’s well-suited for normal to oily skin, or for those who don’t like rich textures. It can still be used on normal to dry or dry skin, provided it is followed by a more emollient and occlusive cream. Fragrance-free and rich in soothing ingredients, it is also a good choice for sensitive skin.

Verdict

Remedy doesn't go overboard with peptides. Its effectiveness stems from a synergistic combination of GHK-Cu, ectoine, and complementary peptides.

If you're looking for the highest concentration of peptides, other formulas will deliver more. If you want to target the signs of aging while hydrating and soothing your skin, this one is particularly well-designed.

It is important to note, however, that peptides are still a supplement, not a cornerstone. Daily sun protection and—when well tolerated—retinoids remain the two best-documented measures against skin aging.
