Eye contour care - dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles according to a doctor and analyses by BeautyDecoders.

The eye contour area is treated according to the problem: retinol, peptides and hydration for wrinkles; vitamin C, niacinamide and gentle exfoliants for brown circles; caffeine, vitamin K and retinol for blue circles; caffeine and drainage for puffiness. As the skin is very thin, gentle formulas are preferred, introduced gradually.

Why is this area so sensitive

01

The finest skin

The vessels and orbicularis muscle sometimes show through, leading to the appearance of dark circles.

02

Quickly dehydrated

With very few sebaceous glands, it dries out quickly: fine lines at the end of the day signal a lack of hydration.

03

UV-sensitive

The rim of the eye socket is very exposed, and the lower eyelid is prone to hyperpigmentation. Non-irritating sunscreen, mineral if skin is reactive.

04

The orbicularis muscle

Its contractions create crow's feet. Botulinum toxin works here, but its results are limited under the lower eyelid - hence the importance of a suitable routine.

Problem 01

Visit wrinkles contour

The signs of aging appear early here. Against wrinkles: retinol, vitamin C, peptides (notably argireline) act on fine lines. Moisturizers also have a rapid smoothing effect. Gentle cleansing prevents the formation of dehydration lines.

Verdict - Contour cream with bakuchiol, a gentle alternative to retinol on fine lines (anti-aging 86.7). Very well tolerated (+0.5). 5.00/5 out of 9 reviews.

Problem 02

Visit brown circles (pigmented)

Difficult to treat, and the fragile zone prohibits overly aggressive skin care products: gentle active ingredients are multiplied - vitamin C, gentle exfoliants (PHA, lactic acid), niacinamide, tranexamic acid, azelaic acid, alpha-arbutin, never all at once. If the upper eyelid is also pigmented, the cause is often genetic (less effective treatments). Wearing sunglasses is the most important habit.

Problem 03

Visit blue circles (pinkish, purplish)

The bluish hue is due to the thinness of the skin, which allows vessels to be seen through. Three active ingredients help: caffeine (vasoconstrictor), vitamin K (on hemosiderin deposits) and retinol (which thickens the dermis and reduces transparency). Good sleep hygiene is essential here.

Problem 04

Visit pockets under the eyes

Two causes, treated very differently. Edema (puffiness in the morning) responds to skin care, hydration and certain habits (limit salt, drink in the morning); gentle massages and rolling encourage drainage. Lipoma Allergies (pollen, dust mites, cosmetics) aggravate puffiness and dark circles. Allergies (pollen, dust mites, cosmetics) aggravate puffiness and dark circles.

Eye contour explained

Do we need a product specific ?

Dedicated formulas have real advantages: they are often non-comedogenic (to avoid milium grains), with textures and concentrations adapted to the sensitivity of the area. Well-tolerated active ingredients: peptides, niacinamide, vitamin C derivatives, vitamin E, ceramides, hyaluronic acid. Potentially irritating active ingredients: retinol, pure vitamin C, to be introduced gradually. Simple skincare is all that's needed for a slightly marked contour.

How to apply

Cleansing should be gentle: cleansing oil or balm, then gentle cleanser in the evening. The serum (lighter) is applied before the cream. Morning: contour serum, then sunscreen. Evening: serum followed by moisturizing night cream or treatment cream (retinol, peptides). Lifestyle: quality sleep, a low-salt diet rich in antioxidants, sun protection and sunglasses, avoidance of tobacco, identification of allergens.

Your questions about eye contour

How can I tell if my dark circles are blue or brown?
Blue (or pinkish, purplish) circles result from the transparency of vessels under thin skin; they fade with gentle stretching. Brown circles are pigmented, and their color does not change with stretching. If the upper eyelid is also pigmented, the cause is often genetic.
Which active ingredient for blue circles?
Caffeine (a vasoconstrictor) reduces the appearance of vessels, vitamin K acts on hemosiderin deposits, and retinol thickens the dermis to reduce transparency. Sleep also plays an important role.
Can I make the bags under my eyes disappear?
It all depends on the cause. A pocket of oedema (more marked in the morning) responds to care, drainage and good habits. A fatty hernia, on the other hand, can scarcely be treated with cosmetics, and requires medical advice.
Is an eye contour product really useful?
Dedicated formulas have textures and concentrations adapted to this fragile area, and are often non-comedogenic. For a slight contour, a gentle facial care product may suffice; for a targeted problem, a specific product is preferable.
Can retinol be used around the eyes?
Yes, in small, gradual doses. Retinol is effective on fine lines and dark circles by thickening the dermis, but it can dry out the skin: we recommend combining it with a moisturizer and monitoring tolerance.
