CeraVe, the dermatologists« favorite brand, is launching an anti-aging cream »with peptides.« The pitch is enticing: peptides + 3 ceramides + niacinamide, all »for all skin types.".

I’ve analyzed the INCI list and tested the product, and here’s my nuanced review.

What exactly are peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Some act as «messengers» that signal cells to produce more collagen and elastin, much like a key that unlocks a lock.

This cream contains two of them:

Tripeptide-1 (the well-known GHK): the most extensively studied signaling peptide.
Caproyl Tetrapeptide-3 : Focused on skin elasticity and structure.

Good news: Since these are signaling molecules, they can theoretically be effective even at low doses. Bad news: Their effects are mild, slow, and generally less well-established than those of retinoids or vitamin C. And to get a sense of how effective they are, you need to look at where they’re listed in the ingredients list.

The detail that caught my attention: the position of the peptides

Here's one thing the product's name doesn't highlight.

In the INCI list, ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration, but with one important caveat: this rule is mandatory only up to 1 %. Below this threshold, the brand may list the ingredients in any order it chooses.

Let's take a look at where the featured assets appear:

Tripeptide-1 : at the bottom of the list (32nd out of ~43)
Caproyl Tetrapeptide-3 : (36th out of ~43)

Both come after phenoxyethanol, a preservative that is generally present in amounts of less than 1 %.

Should we conclude that the peptides Are they «ineffective»? No: some peptides work even at low doses. But in my opinion, we shouldn’t expect them to have a significant anti-wrinkle effect either.

What I found in the formula

✅ The positives

1. Niacinamide, the true unsung hero (No. 6)
In my opinion, the best-formulated anti-aging ingredient in this cream isn’t the peptide listed at the top of the packaging, but niacinamide, which is listed in sixth place. It strengthens the skin barrier (by stimulating ceramide production, in synergy with the three ceramides present), soothes and reduces redness, evens out the complexion, and provides a mild but scientifically proven anti-aging effect on fine lines and skin elasticity.

2. The heart of the product: repair + hydration—that’s CeraVe at its best
The top ingredients do the real work: glycerin (position 2), shea butter (position 5), the three essential ceramides (NP, AP, EOP), cholesterol, and phytosphingosine. The skin barrier is restored to perfection. This is the brand’s signature, and it’s flawless here.

3. Deep and Long-Lasting Hydration
Hyaluronic acid, saccharide isomerate, biosaccharide gum, MVE® extended-release technology. In this regard, the formula truly delivers on its promises.

4. High actual tolerance
Fragrance-free, with soothing allantoin and niacinamide to reduce redness. The «sensitive skin» claim seems perfectly credible to me here, which is rare for a cream marketed as anti-aging.

⚠️ Limitations (based on my analysis)

1. The «peptides» category is based on active ingredients listed at the end of the list
That’s the key point. No retinoids, no vitamin C, no acids. The anti-wrinkle benefits associated with peptides are based on two ingredients present in small amounts.

2. A texture that is richer than «light»
The brand describes the texture as light, but I find it rather thick, even though it absorbs quickly into the skin. The INCI list also includes dimethicone (listed as the third ingredient), triglycerides, shea butter, and several fatty alcohols. It’s comfortable for dry to normal skin; in my opinion, it might feel a bit heavy on an oily T-zone.

3. Minimalist Antioxidants
Only tocopherol (vitamin E), at the end of the list. It's fine, but nothing special.

My verdict

This is a good reparative and moisturizing cream for normal to dry skin; the two peptides add a little something extra, but there’s nothing revolutionary about it.
