My skin peels after the sun. What can I do?
You're on vacation, you've had a few too many naps on a deckchair in the sun, and you've got a sunburn. The result? Peeling skin. This is a very common consequence of over-exposure to the sun on vacation or when returning from vacation. In this article we give you our tips and tricks for getting rid of it.
What is peeling skin?
Peeling skin is known as desquamation. It's a completely natural process that occurs when cells regenerate. Dead skin then peels off, like a piece of fruit being peeled off, in larger or smaller pieces. Scaling can occur in the case of dermatological conditions such as psoriasis or allergy, but sunburn is well known to be one of the main triggers.
How can I avoid peeling skin?
To avoid peeling skin, it's essential to keep your skin under control. sun exposure. We expose ourselves very little to direct sunlight, try as much as possible to always be in the shade of an umbrella or a tree, wear a hat and above all use an SPF50 sunscreen to be applied every two hours for maximum protection! Avoiding sunburn means avoiding peeling skin.
I still have peeling skin, what can I do?
Don't pull off peeling skin
Just as we recommend that you never pierce your pimples, even when they're white, don't rip off dead skin, no matter how tempting. The skin will heal and repair itself, and ripping off dead skin will only slow down the process. Instead, we're going to help speed up the healing process.
Moisturize your skin without moderation
Apply a after-sun care or a rich moisturizer on your peeling skin, as often as possible, to rehydrate your skin and speed up the repair process. An aloe vera-based moisturizer, pure or not, will help reduce burning sensations if you have them. Whether your burn is on the face or not, think of the sheet-mask tip, to be placed in the fridge beforehand if possible. Guaranteed soothing and repairing effect, depending on the active ingredient chosen! The sheet-mask can be placed on your back if you're lying down, or on your chest in the same way.
Don't exfoliate your skin
We all mistakenly think that a good scrub, using large grains and rubbing very hard, will get rid of peeling skin. Well, not at all. It will only worsen your condition, as your skin will be weakened. The last thing you want to do is subject it to any further aggression, and it's better to focus on skin care and moisturizing. Take a cold or lukewarm shower, washing with a very mild shower oil for example, to rehydrate the skin.
Avoid the sun again
There's nothing worse than getting a sunburn on peeling skin. You'd get a sunburn inside your sunburn - can you imagine the horror? If your chest or back is affected, it's best to wear a T-shirt or cover-up on the beach or when you go out, to give your skin a rest. Don't forget to apply your sunscreen.
I have peeling skin on my face. What should I do?
As with our previous tips, it's essential to moisturize your skin to promote repair. So use a rich moisturizing cream. Don't exfoliate! Instead, use moisturizing or soothing masks. At night, you can use an occlusive treatment as the very last step in your beauty routine, after your moisturizer, to lock in moisture and achieve much faster results.
